What is New Horizons Clubhouse?

New Horizons Clubhouse is a psycho-social rehabilitation (PSR) program of North Country Community Mental Health. PSR is a therapeutic model that aims to help people with mental illnesses maintain independence, build employment skills, and develop strong social support systems. Our program is accredited through Clubhouse International and CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). Our service area includes Antrim, Kalkaska, and Otsego Counties.

At the clubhouse, members and staff work together to manage all aspects of the program, with members having an active voice in operational decisions, policy updates, and other clubhouse matters. Mutual trust is built as members and staff work side by side to run the clubhouse. This unique staff/member relationship gives members a sense of belonging and purpose. With a focus on members' strengths, talents, and abilities, the model holistically provides opportunities for growth, independence, and empowerment. Recovery happens through supportive relationships and shared accomplishments.

Clubhouse members are supported by both staff and peers as they build friendships, seek employment, pursue educational goals, and engage in wellness and social activities. Although their participation is voluntary, members are strongly encouraged to explore their own interests and develop new skills as they participate in unit work and other activities.
