New Horizons Clubhouse group

Skill-Building in the Work-Ordered Day: Working in one of our two work units – the Business & Communications Unit (BCU) or Culinary Arts Unit (CAU) – gives members the chance to share their talents, practice new skills, and build social relationships with peers.

Employment: We help members enter or return to paid employment through Transitional Employment or Supported Employment. We also support members who are seeking employment on their own or are already employed independently.

  • Transitional Employment: Clubhouse staff work directly with employers to develop entry-level positions to be filled by active clubhouse members for a designated period of time, typically 6-9 months. Clubhouse staff members learn the position, train members, and fill in during member absences, all at no charge to the employer. (Members must be paid for their training time.) Members typically work part-time, 12-20 hours per week, usually in 4-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. When necessary, Clubhouse provides transportation to and from the job site.
  • Supported Employment:Clubhouse connects with area businesses to help “open the door” for members who are seeking employment. Supports are flexible and individualized. Clubhouse staff, the worker, and the employer work together to determine the type, frequency, and duration of needed support.
  • Independent Employment: Clubhouse helps members with job searches, resumes, mock interviews, etc. We encourage our independently employed members to participate in social outings and other events, and we provide encouragement and support as needed.

Education: We assist members with educational goals, including obtaining High School Diplomas/GEDs or career certifications or pursuing college degrees. We also offer peer-to-peer tutoring in basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills.

Wellness: We have an on-site Exercise Room equipped with treadmills, hand weights, weight bench, elliptical machine, and exercise bike. We offer fresh fruits and vegetables with daily lunches, and we promote healthy living through various activities, meetings, and member-led workshops and presentations on various wellness topics.

Social & Recreational Support: We offer a variety of after-hours social activities throughout the year to allow members to expand friendships and enjoy community outings. In addition to weekly evening activities, we typically offer one weekend activity per month, and we are open for social events on all major holidays, including Christmas and Thanksgiving.
